Too idealistic and sentimental many of them thought. But I disagree. There was and still is a necessity for Norman Rockwell’s style of artistry. His warm depictions of the everyday person’s simple pleasures were something people could either relate to or hope to attain, particularly in times of strife as it was when Rockwell was producing art throughout the Second World War, Depression era and Civil Rights Movements in the US being a few examples. Trying to make people happy when times are tough.
